34. THOMAS TOPPING was born in 1823 at Standish He married Cecily on the 11th of October 1846 at the Parish Church Wigan. He was a coal miner. After the marriage they stayed at Rainfords Buildings Wigan . By 1851 he had changed profession and by the following census he as back to mining. He died sometime before 1871 aged between 28 and 38. (Maybe a mining accident) He was illiterate, signing his marriage certificate with a cross.
35. CECILY LOWE was born in 1824 at Wigan. She was a spinner before her marriage. She too was illiterate. The census of 1871 shows her as a widow living at Patricks Row with her working son and daughter Thomas and Margaret along with her granddaughter Mary. By the 1881 census she is still at the same address with her son Thomas a miner and her unmarried sister Mary a cotton winder.
